The Sightsavers’ Deworming Program is among the most top-rated charity divisions. Sightsavers gives a great opportunity to provide positive outcomes with their received donations.

The focus of Sightsavers is to execute services that focus on preventing blindness and support for those with impaired or low vision. They have various program areas that attend to these needs. There is a strong belief in the program, as the evidence unfolds that administering drugs designed for deworming does indeed reduce worm quantities. Thus this program type is deemed a high priority, focusing on the fact that the benefits are strong, despite low costs to administer it.

The organization has shared collected surveys that represent the past successes of their NTD programs. These surveys contain data that give results as to whether a large number of children have been aided and helped through their past work. The results of these statistics show results that are moderately positive, with a few limitations within the methodical domain. Sightsavers has reported that they will continue to perform these surveys for each Mass Drug Administration (MDA). With limited sources to contain funding, it is predicted that Sightsavers will have low funding for the next year.

“What is river blindness?” River blindness is a parasitic infection that can, over time, cause irreversible blindness. The disease is spread by the bite of infected black flies that breed near fast-flowing rivers. 120 million people are at risk worldwide. River blindness can lead to severe skin irritation, pain and sight loss. 500,000 people are blind because of it. 37 million are infected by the disease. Medication can stop it spreading. Fly catchers work to eradicate the flies that carry river blindness. Together, we can eliminate the disease. Nearly One in Five Women are Estimated to Have a Disability Worldwide

An estimated one billion people in the world have a form of disability. Of these people, 15 percent of these people have either blind or visual impairment – roughly 285 million. Going further, within this population, 35 million are totally blind and two-thirds of this group are women. Unfortunately, a good portion of these women live in lower-income countries and face daily discrimination because of their sex, as well as their impairment. Overall, humanitarian organizations such as Sightsavers focuses on helping this mass population of people in need, and continue to strive to provide the help and care they need to have promising and impactful lives.
