DIABLO 4 DEVELOPERS SHARE THEIR FAVORITE BUILDS

Diablo 4 developers at Blizzard share some of their more powerful and favorite builds while working on the game. After a lengthy development period and multiple beta test weekends, Blizzard is finally preparing to launch the highly anticipated Diablo 4. Although this latest entry in the long-running franchise places a bigger focus on a more open and shared world for players, the core Diablo gameplay loop of creating a character and getting stronger through loot and leveling up remains a huge component of the experience.

Customization is an even bigger factor this time around, not only through how a character looks during creation, but with much bigger skill trees for Diablo 4's five starting classes. Players got a taste of these classes during the betas, but for many, such as the Druid, parts of their specialization were locked and could not be used. Inside the full game, players will not only have full access to all the active and passive skills, but Diablo 4 lets players respec skills or the entire tree if they want to try something else, or change a build to better synergize with items and gear.

Part of this character customization has proven to be a big hit not only with players during the beta, but internally at Blizzard as well. In a recent interview, some of the developers working on Diablo 4 shared their favorite builds created during the game's development. For Diablo 4 game director Joe Shely, they went with a Frost Sorcerer as the freeze mechanic in Diablo 4 can be used to prevent monster death mechanics, like nullifying explosions or other potentially dangerous situations. Frost Sorcerers give players more control over the battlefield and ways to avoid potentially taking lethal damage.

Lead Class Designer Adam Z. Jackson had a tough time picking one in particular, but settled on the Elemental Druid due to the Tornado skill which, once upgraded high enough, can be cast multiple times, filling the screen with chaotic win destruction.

Melissa Corning, lead game producer, followed a similar train of thought to Joe Shely by highlighting the Frozen Orb Sorcerer. Not only is being able to control the battlefield through freezing enemies extremely effective, but Corning also hinted at numerous legendary items that further enhance this skill which add various effects to it that are constantly going off when Frozen Orb is cast.

Finally, Ash Sweeting Vickey, Diablo 4's dungeon producer, focused on builds that deal high amounts of damage from further away, highlighting the Hydra Fireball build for the Sorcerer class as well as the Rapid Fire Rogue.

Fans don't have to wait too much longer to start building out their ideal class, especially for players who pre-ordered the Deluxe and Ultimate versions of Diablo 4. Not only do they get early access to the game, but they'll be able to take part in a limited time Hardcore Race. Blizzard is offering the first 1000 players to reach level 100 with a Hardcore character a chance to have their name add to a statue of Lilith on the Blizzard campus.

Diablo 4 launches on June 6, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
