IDRIS ELBA PROMISES "UNFINISHED BUSINESS" WILL BE RESOLVED IN EXTRACTION 3

After playing a mysterious character in Extraction 2, acclaimed actor Idris Elba teases what to expect in the next planned sequel in the eponymous action franchise. The British star promises "unfinished business" will be sorted in Extraction 3, should it come to fruition.

Speaking with Collider, Elba was asked about Extraction 3 and what fans can expect from his character in the Netflix action pic. While the Extraction threequel hasn't been fully confirmed yet, Elba hints at big plans for the movie. "I know that we have some unfinished business from Extraction 2. It hasn't been made official yet, but I'm pretty sure it will be," he said.

Extraction 2 Proves the MCU Wasted This Thor Relationship

In Extraction 2, Elba plays a stranger named Alcott aka The Man in the Suit, who meets with Chris Hemsworth's central character Tyler Rake to offer him and his Nik (Golshifteh Farahani) a way out of prison on the condition they accept missions on behalf of his boss. The "irresistible" offer and the motivations behind his character remain talking points and will likely be explored in Extraction 3.

A Threequel Is in Development According to Netflix

Extraction 2 solidified the titular action thriller film series as the most successful in Netflix history, with the sequel earning positive reviews from critics. Last May, Hemsworth hinted at a potential trilogy and, the following month, Netflix confirmed during TUDUM that the threequel was in development. Former Netflix film chief Scott Stuber offered a positive update about Extraction 3 last November, insisting it would be made though he preached patience from movie lovers. He also hailed Elba's addition as a way to "evolve" the franchise, telling Collider at the time, "Getting Idris [Elba] into the franchise was an interesting way to kind of evolve it. So we're waiting on the script and working hard, but aspiration would be great to get it back. I mean, what those guys have done has been really great in that franchise."

Extraction 2 cracking Netflix's Top 10 list makes Extraction the most successful film franchise on the streamer.

Sam Hargrave will return to direct Extraction 3, with the helmer telling CBR last summer how much he pushed Hemsworth to his limit during stunt sequences and other scenes to make Extraction 2 believable. The movie was widely praised for its stunt quality and action sequences, with Hemsworth's performance receiving rave reviews. The Extraction franchise is based on the graphic novel, Ciudad, by Ande Parks.

Elba is plugging his Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff series, Knuckles, which premieres via Paramount+ in North America on Apr. 26. He will reprise his role as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which opens in theaters on Dec. 20.
