JACK QUAID'S BEST PERFORMANCES, RANKED

Jack Quaid started his career as the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. In the last 10 years, role by role, performance by performance, he has earned being known as an actor, and not only the kid of famous actors, as his performances have been getting better and better, while also proving he can play in any genre and kind of film. Here are Jack Quaid’s best performances, ranked.

Rampage (2018)

Rampage is the movie adaptation of the video game of the same name. Led by Dwayne Johnson, the film is a pure spectacle about giant mutated animals and their ability for destruction. Quaid plays Connor, one of the scientists trying to help Johnson stop the giant animals from destroying everything in their way. Although it’s a small role, Quaid infuses the character with enough charisma and worry to be one of the only roles audiences root for.

Tragedy Girls (2017)

Tragedy Girls is a movie about two high school friends, Sadie (Brianna Hildebrand) and McKayle (Alexandra Shipp), who have a true crime blog named Tragedy Girls. When a serial killer stops killing, they decide to become serial killers themselves, so they can boost their blog and become internet stars. Quaid plays Jordan, the romantic interest and son of the sheriff, who starts as a concerned friend before starting to suspect them.

The actor’s background in comedy goes great with this film that mixes true crime, comedy, gore, and slasher films, creating one of the funniest horror comedies ever made.

Vinyl

Vinyl looked like the next big prestige show when it debuted, exploring the music scene of New York in the 1970s. The pilot episode was directed by Martin Scorsese; the show was co-created by him and Mick Jagger. The show also had an incredible cast, with Bobby Cannavale, Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Juno Temple (in one of her best performances ever), Max Casella, and Jack Quaid as their stars.

The actor plays one of the supporting roles as junior A&R executive, Clark Morelle, a young ambitious executive, who is still learning to navigate the world of music and excess back then. This was Quaid’s first TV show, and he already proved how he could be a scene stealer, being able to stand against actors like Cannavale and Romano, and making his performance stand out.

Batman: The Long Halloween (2021)

Batman: The Long Halloween is the latest animated movie about the best detective in the world. Released in two parts, this story is about Batman’s investigation to stop the Holiday Killer. Quaid voices Alberto Falcone, mob boss Carmine Falcone’s son.

The actor voices Alberto Falcone with as many daddy issues as possible, as the character feels like he has never earned his father's respect, giving a performance that makes audiences feel bad for a mob son, something that only happened in The Sopranos, and that’s all Quaid.

The Hunger Games (2012)

The Hunger Games franchise was adapted from the trilogy of novels of the same name about a dystopian future where teenage characters from each district compete to the death. The franchise tells the story of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), and how, through her participation in the games, she’s able to create a revolution against those in power, especially President Snow (Donald Sutherland).

Quaid has a role with almost no lines as Marvel, one of the participants in the Hunger Games from one of the posher districts. Although the role is small, fans of the franchise hate the character because the only thing he does in the film is killing young Rue (Amandla Stenberg), making his small appearance one of the most hated in the whole franchise. Not bad for Quaid’s first role ever.

Scream (2022)

Scream (also known as Scream 5) showed the horror franchise had a future with a new set of characters, and a new point of view for the movies, this time riffing on fan culture. This legacy sequel is one of the best Scream movies ever made, and Quaid has fun with his character and performance.

SPOILERS coming: his usual persona of the good guy, and boyfriend you would want to meet your parents is used for evil here, as he’s revealed as one of the Ghostface killers; a Reddit-obsessed fan of the Stab franchise, that not satisfied with the latest installments, decides to create a new bad gal for the franchise, Sam (Melissa Barrera) with the help of Amber Freeman (Mikey Madison). How he’s Richie changes once every card is over the table shows how much Quaid is enjoying being evil for once, and how he can play toxic masculinity with the best of them.

Star Trek: Lower Decks

The animated show Star Trek: Lower Decks shows a different side of that world, being a comedy and focusing on the low-ranking support crew of one of the ships. Quaid voices one of the lead characters, Brad Boimler; the one who always follows the rules, and doesn’t want to do anything to put in peril his place on the ship.

The actor knows how to do scared, decent, and smart in his sleep, so this voicing role is perfect for him. He’s also able to sell every joke imaginable only with his voice, making him the perfect actor for this kind of show.

Logan Lucky (2017)

Logan Lucky is about the heist of a NASCAR race by the Logan brothers, Jimmy (Channing Tatum) and Clyde (Adam Driver), and their accomplices. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, this film shows another heist, much less cool and smoother than when he directed the Ocean’s franchise, but this one is much funnier.

Quaid plays one of the team, Fish Bang, a redneck dumb guy and the brother of safe cracker Joe Bang (Daniel Craig having the time of his life). Although it’s a small role, Quaid shows he’s able to play with incredible actors like Craig, Tatum, and Driver, while stealing every scene he’s in (and not only for his look, with an incredible wig).

Plus One (2019)

Plus One tells the story of two friends, Ben (Quaid) and Alice (Maya Erskine), who decide to be each other’s plus one for the whole wedding summer season while trying to hook up with other people at said weddings. This is a rom-com, so it’s pretty easy to know where things are going to end up, and yet Quaid and Erskine have an incredibly fun chemistry, that makes audiences root for them. The Logan Lucky actor shows how good he can be as a romantic lead, which should surprise nobody as it’s in his DNA, as he’s the son of rom-com queen Meg Ryan, and Dennis Quaid, who also appeared in some rom-com.

About the film, Quaid told ET Online: “I think the movie almost becomes a romantic comedy in the middle, but before that it's a buddy movie and I really liked that. (…) But that's something Maya and I talked about a lot while we were shooting is that at its heart, it's really a movie about friendship. These are two best friends who ultimately make the realization that "the one" can just be a person that you want to spend as much time with as possible.”

The Boys

The Boys is a unique show where superheroes are real, and there’s a group of vigilantes who combat them when they abuse their power. Quaid plays Hughie, one of the lead characters; a normal, bland guy, who joins The Boys after a superhero kills his girlfriend and faces no consequences whatsoever. Although he was progressing in Hollywood with each new film, this is Quaid’s breakout role, as he’s one of the lead characters in this successful show.

The Boys reflects real problems with the superhero industry and fans, and the actor nails his performances as the common man, who is getting a spine through the different experiences Hughie is having, while also being one of the moral compasses of the team. Quaid knows how to play exasperated, scared, emasculated, and has the best jokes, while also being an MVP of the reaction shot, making his character essential on the show.

About his character, Quaid told Uproxx: “It was important for me to have Hughie be a person that we could still sympathize with, even if he is doing pretty insane things. I think the situations dictate that his hand is forced into a lot of it. He does feel intense remorse about some of the things that he’s done, but that’s what I love about him.”
