SEOUL, May 2 (Yonhap) -- The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the essence of the film industry, is set to hold a special retrospective screening featuring South Korea's veteran actress Youn Yuh-jung.

According to the Korea Foundation on the 1st, the Academy Museum will present a screening program titled "윤여정: Youn Yuh-jung," highlighting Youn's illustrious acting career spanning over half a century, from the 17th to the 25th of the month, local time.

In this retrospective exhibition, eight films will be showcased, starting with "Minari" (2020), the film for which Youn Yuh-jung became the first Korean to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The lineup will also include her debut film "Woman of Fire" (1971), "Canola" (2016), "The Housemaid" (2010), "The Bacchus Lady" (2016), and "The Boomerang Family" (2013).

Youn Yuh-jung herself will visit the Academy Museum in Los Angeles on the 17th and 18th to meet with local audiences.

The Academy Museum introduced this retrospective exhibition on its website, stating, "The Academy Museum is honored to present a retrospective series of Youn Yuh-jung, an irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind actor in the history of Korean cinema, celebrating the remarkable array of work she has crafted over the fifty-plus years of her career."

The museum also stated, "Since her film debut in Kim Ki-young’s Woman of Fire (1971), Youn refused to compromise her practice to serve the patriarchal systems which dominate the majority of mainstream cinema in Korea. As an iconic figure and role model to many actors in Korea, Youn continues to push boundaries in her incredible scope of storytelling, routed through her bold and forthright perception of each character she portrays."

The Academy Museum, opened by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in LA in 2021, is the largest film museum in the United States, showcasing various film-related artifacts and commemorating noteworthy films.

This event is part of the Academy Museum's "Korean Film Screening Series," presented in part by a grant from the Korea Foundation.
