NINTENDO LIVE 2023 HAS AN AMIIBO TOURNAMENT, ZELDA CONCERT, AND MORE

The latest Nintendo Live will have a Zelda-themed musical concert and an amiibo fighting tournament among its planned festivities. Last October saw the return of Nintendo’s live gaming event following a three-year hiatus, with competitive tournaments for titles like Splatoon 3 and Super Smash Bros Ultimate, a live concert featuring music from Animal Crossing, and even an exploration into the history of Pokemon.

Since then, Nintendo has enjoyed one of its most exciting years in recent memory. Last month, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom finally launched on the Nintendo Switch to near-universal acclaim, with fans flooding the internet with videos of its new building mechanics in action. There have also been rumors of Nintendo announcing its next mainline console, though the company itself has downplayed this. Outside the gaming world, The Super Mario Bros. Movie surprised skeptical moviegoers and become one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time after hitting the big screen in April.

In light of all this success, Nintendo has just announced that Nintendo Live 2023 will be held in Seattle, Washington from September 1 to September 4. This marks the first time the annual event will take place outside of Japan. During the four-day showcase, players will get to sample hit Nintendo titles like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. There will also be live music, with concert performances featuring tracks from Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda. Lastly, fans will get to take photos with mascot versions of Mario and friends and relax in an Animal Crossing-themed getaway.

As was the case with past Nintendo Live events, players will also get to compete in several Nintendo Switch-based tournaments. The first day will feature the Super Smash Bros. Squad Strike tournament for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players ages 13 and up, while the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 2023 Championships will be held on day two. On September 3, players will get to train up their collectible amiibo fighters in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate amiibo+me Exhibition 2023. Day four will close out the festivities with the Splatoon 3 2023 Championships.

Nintendo Live 2023 looks to be an exciting showcase of the Big N’s dedicated fanbase, and one of the most intriguing events is the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate amiibo tournament. Instead of controlling their Super Smash Bros. amiibo fighters directly, players will have their figures battle each other in CPU-controlled matches. It will be interesting to see how this plays out at Nintendo Live 2023, which will also be host to a wide variety of demos, tournaments, and concert performances this September.
