WATCH: THE ROCK’S INTENSE TRAINING FOR ‘SMASHING MACHINE’

For now, Cody Rhodes remains the Undisputed WWE Champion in part because The Rock is away preparing to film his latest movie, Smashing Machine. But when he returns, The Final Boss may have something up his elbow pad for The American Nightmare that’s more than The People’s Elbow.

In preparation for his film about the life of MMA legend Mark Kerr, a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion and World Vale Tudo Champion, The Rock shared a video of his training for the flick along with a message for fans:

Day 1.

Preparing for “Smashing Machine”

I’m learning daily and it’s been a very humbling, intense and motivating journey into this world of combat and becoming, Mark Kerr - the two-time @UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion, World Vale Tudo Champion.

I’m a hard worker, but I realized that I’d have to work harder with this role than anything I’ve ever worked for in my life.

This physicality is just one part of the larger journey, that is truly a team effort.

Growing and grateful.

As Kerr was making a name for himself in the days of combat sports that preceded mixed martial arts, he became the subject of a 2002 HBO documentary, The Smashing Machine. The program focused on Kerr’s life and career, his struggles with painkiller addiction, and the raw nature of no-holds-barred fighting.

In the past, Johnson talked about his love for MMA and how he would have gotten into it as a career had it been popular sooner. It’ll be interesting to see what — if any — techniques The Final Boss takes with him when he next steps into a WWE ring. It’s conceivable that The Rock could defeat Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship, not with a Rock Bottom, but with The People’s Omoplata.
