‘WE ARE LADY PARTS' ENTERS ITS VILLAIN ERA IN SEASON 2 TRAILER

Who said the heroes' journey can't take a little detour? In the trailer for "We Are Lady Parts" Season 2, the eponymous female punk band decides to dabble in villainy - to endlessly entertaining results.

Created by "Polite Society" writer and director Nida Manzoor, "We Are Lady Parts" premiered in the U.K. in 2018 and in the U.S. via Peacock in 2021. IndieWire's Steve Greene wrote at the time that "Each member of the greater Lady Parts quintet could easily handle an episode on their own," praising a show which is "at its best when it's breaking free from restraints, too, tossing in a bunch of playful asides and visual diversions."

"I wanted to go bolder, sillier, darker and deeper and that is exactly what we strived to do," Manzoor said in a press release accompanying the Season 2 trailer.

Season 1 began with Amina (Anjana Vasan) joining Lady Parts without her parents' knowledge - not because they'd disapprove, but because it speaks to a part of her that needs to be nurtured. There she meets Saira (Sarah Kameela Impey), Ayesha (Juliette Motamed), Bisma (Faith Omole), and Momtaz (Lucie Shorthouse), the coolest girls ostensibly in the whole wide world writing irresistible bangers like "Voldemort Under My Headscarf" ("What could I be hiding?").

Time has passed between Seasons 1 and 2 in the world of the show as well; Vasan once again narrates the new trailer as Amina, explaining that Lady Parts has a fan base and tour dates as the girls prep to release a full album. That ambitious milestone has its setbacks, including two thousands pounds in fees and a sneaky sense that they're selling out in order to maintain their punk rock standing. Worse yet, a competing outfit called Second Wife is plagiarizing Lady Parts' songs in a brazen attempt to steal their spotlight. With all that going on, who can begrudge a little villainy?

The season also stars Zaqi Ismail, Shobu Kapoor, and Aiysha Hart, with guest appearances by Malala Yousafzai and Meera Syal.

"We Are Lady Parts" Season 2 premieres May 30 on Peacock. Watch the full trailer below.
